Unveiling the Memorial to the Twice Hero of the Soviet Union Michail Odintsov

Unveiling the memorial to the twice Hero of the Soviet Union, honored military pilot of the USSR, aviation Colonel General Michail Odintsov took place on 3rd September in the settlement Polozovo, Bolsheesosnovskiy District, Perm Krai.

The memorial was established in the motherland of the pilot by the team of the Fund of Sculptors of Russia “Edinenie” upon an initiative of the Krai department of the Russian Peace Fund, with financial support of “Permskoye Zemlyachestvo”, Administration of the Perm Krai Governor and Bolsheesosnovskiy District, commercial structures and citizens of Perm Krai.

Dmitriy Postnikov and Aleksander Suvorov, Izhevsk authors of the bust, worked over its creation for about 4 months. The sculpture was done from a piece of Siberian granite of light grey color. Mass of the sculpture is more than 2 tons.

The opening ceremony was with the presence of the Chief of the Perm Krai Governor Administration Dmitriy Samoylov, member of the Federal Council of the RF Igor Shubin, deputate of the Legislative Union of Perm Krai and director of “Permenergo” Branch Oleg Zhdanov, military commissar of Perm Krai Anatoliy Mochalkin, chairman of the Perm Krai Union of the War veterans Anatoliy Samoylov. Also the opening ceremony was visited by the son of the legendary pilot Dmitriy Odintsov.

Michail Odintsov is a twice Hero of the Soviet Union (when he was 24 he got the second star), aviation Colonel General, honored military pilot of the USSR, had two Orders of Lenin, five Orders of the Red Banner and other awards. He was one of the first leaders of the Cosmonaut Training Centre.
